Q. What is fields ?
:- The region in which the function specifies the physical quantity is called a field.
* In electricity and magnetism two commonly terms used are .
(i) Scalar field
(ii) Vector field
(i) Scalar field
:- The region of space in which the value of a scalar quantity can be characterized by a single value at every point is called a scalar field .
Ex. Temperature at various points along a rod , electric potential in a region surrounding a charged body etc.
(ii) Vector field
:- The region of space in which the value of a vector quantity can be characterized by a single value at every point is called a vector field .
Ex. Electric field , magnetic field, gravitational field etc
